Customer Reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars Great BR Player for the Price

We bought this Blu-ray player for two basic reasons: 1) To have Blu-ray capability, and 2) Because it allows access to Netflix Instant Movies. We are still using a Mitsubishi 55″ TV that is several years old, so I can’t rate the LG’s ability to render HD video. However, the standard video rendition is excellent so I have no reason to believe that the HD rendition wouldn’t be, too. I should also note that, because of our older TV, we are using the component video connections rather than the HDMI. I’m looking forward to updating the TV to an HD set soon, and I’m sure we’ll notice an improvement.

The Netflix connection was easy to set up, and once it’s set access is just a button push away. I followed LG’s advice and connected the player to our LAN with a wired Ethernet connection rather than a wireless one and we’ve never had a problem with streaming movies. In addition to Netflix, the BD 370 allows access to your own home movies/videos, photo and music collections, Cinema Now (with subscription) and YouTube via an Ethernet connection. I have viewed YouTube videos with the BD 370 and they play well.

Bottom line: This is a great Blu-ray player for $150.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I hoped for

I purchased this Bluray player in March, and have loved every minute of watching programs on it. I have an older HDTV (rear-projection LCD Sony), and this LG is hooked up via Component Cables, since my TV doesn’t have HDMI inputs. The quality of Bluray discs is fantastic. We also watch a TON of Netflix on it, and when we get “HD quality” from the service, it is very good.

I gave the remote 4 out of 5 stars maybe because it took me a few uses to really figure it out. I’m not sure if that’s because this is my first Bluray player or the design from LG.

The bottem line on this product is that it has exceded my expectations. If you’ve seen a Bluray demo at any store, you know how good these can be. Even with my component hook-up, the quality blows away DVD. And we use the Netflix streaming feature far more than I expected we would (I just looked it up, and we have watched 87 movies or TV episodes on this player since March 3rd).

I would highly recomend this product to those looking for a Bluray player

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Blu-Ray Player

I picked this Blu-ray player up on Black Friday for a Christmas present for my parents. They have not used any of the special functions yet. (Netflix, Youtube, etc.) But it is a fantastic Blu-Ray player. They have not had a single problem with it so far. It also upconverts DVDs very nicely.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more cable TV!

I love streaming Netflix right to my TV through this DVD player! Of course the Blu-Ray discs look great, too, but I ditched my cable TV package since I can get more than enough movies & other entrtainment from Netflix.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice enough player but please read

This is a great player. I have no complaints with it. I am writing this review only to clarify a point. I searched everywhere as to how the BD370 is different from BD390 and everywhere i read the same thing. That the only difference is that the 390 supports wireless networking. That is not entirely true. There is another big difference – The BD370 is NOT DLNA compliant. This is something that no one mentioned anywhere on the internet.

Since the 370 is not DLNA compliant, it does NOT support PC connectivity or things like Playon / Tversity. I am giving it 4 stars because it lacks PC connectivity and Pandora.

On the other hand the 390 is fully compliant. It has everything the 370 has plus it can stream media from the shared folders on your networked PC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mid-Price Combo of costs, features, ease, reliability … so far

Since this page already has so many consumer comments, I delayed adding my own two cents into the heady mix. Most of the upsides of this model from LG have already been listed: very good video performance (though not utterly perfect in all possible respects); outstanding audio; good networking capacity with a variety of sites (including my own fav, netflix, for streaming media). I accept the comments which seem to indicate that some consumers got lemons from LG. This player is my first experience with LG electronics, and so far I am very favorably impressed. My unit has clean/minimal good looks. The remote allows me to get around, using the main features. Setup/menus/GUI are cleanly laid out and make sense. Loading HD times for this unit are outstanding, compared to earlier models from just about everybody; but then, most players have improved their HD access/play times. I am connecting the player to my big rig home theater set up – just five channels plus subwoofer, and I like how easily I was able to hook the sound up. I also like having the HDMI cable carry both video/audio to my HDTV, so that I don’t always have to bother neighbors in my apt bldg by using the HT rig when just the HDTV sound will do. I chose this model based on mid-level combinations of features (added networking) plus entry-level pricing. I like HDTV especially for movies in all genres; but I am not on such an unlimited budget that price is not considered, too. I purchased the unit in November, 2009, and it has been solid in the intervening six months. Very easy to set up/install/connect, too.
