Excellent value, from purchase to operating cost

As the title for this review indicates, this TV set is an excellent value for the money.

Final words.
We are very happy with our purchase, I consider this some of my best spent entertainment dollars, great deal from Amazon, great TV set, well packaged and saving money also on the electric bill, if you need a TV set on this size range, you should definitively consider this Vizio, you will not be disappointed.

Good Value
I bought this TV in store for 629 which is what it’s going for from Target through Amazon.

Overall I’m very pleased with this TV. Though I didn’t pay for it, I would have no reservations doing so. Moreover if this TV was available in the price range I was looking for I would just get it. I wouldn’t spend time shoppingnfor anything better- this is close to as good as it gets for the price.

Finally went HD!!!!
The Mrs. said I had to wait for my 32 inch Sony tube TV to finally croak before justifying a new TV, and I am so happy it did (I swear I wasn’t kicking the old TV honey!) I did a ton of research and found the Vizio Razor to be the best bet for the $$ (under $600 at the local wholesale warehouse), and I could not be happier. I also looked at the (non-LED) Vizio 37″ LCD TV (E370VA) for about $150 less, but I was really attracted to the LED backlight technology, and considering what all these HD flat screens cost a couple years ago, I figure the expense is worth it. My 32″ Sony was over $800 ten years ago!

The picture is so clear even on non-HD channels it is silly, but when you watch HD programs you really can appreciate the technology. The built in speakers are good, but I did connect the system to an old surround sound system I already owned so both the sound and picture are amazing. The system uses so much less power and space than my old TV, I wouldnt be surprised if my electric bill is lower! I just need a crane to get the old beast out of my house.

Ok let me first say that I was looking for any review a user would have on this monitor.
I searched for hours w/ reviews but never owners until I found 3 reviews on Egghead that’s it.
I wondered why not any owner reviews? I still don’t know.
Here’s what I know so far I have used this monitor for 2 days with great results.
I just went into the menu and set it to MEMORY RECALL (1# is Exit)(#2 is Select) low and behold the whites looked whiter and the dark’s were
dark. The back-lit L.E.D. seems to make images sharper then my cold cathode florescent lights (old technology)do.
Good:
The colors and lighting are fine , No Heat from this screen, and it has a sharp image, also easier on the eyes.
This monitor saves you money because the VX2450WM 24″ only uses about 28-30Watts. My older 24″Gateway uses 125Watts.
This monitor DOES have vesa screw holes in back for mounting an monitor arm -
Bad:
This monitor is very light(8)lbs so the plastic base makes the monitor jiggle when typing, that’s it.

Lastly just see if you can find many LED monitors that still have Vesa mounts screw holes in back apparently many don’t.

Impressive!
I purchased two of the ViewSonic VX2450WM-LED monitors and received them this past Tuesday. Absolutely impressive!

Amazon should be commended for their great packaging of the monitor boxes. The boxes were huge, and I am impressed that Amazon took their time to package something properly before shipping it to me.

These LED-backlit monitors replaced two SAMSUNG 226BW CCFL-backlit monitors that I got from Amazon over three years ago. One of them broke down after the warranty expired. The other one is fine, and I am selling that one. Once you have a dual monitor setup it is very difficult to go back to using only one monitor.

This is my first time purchasing a ViewSonic LCD monitor. I am so glad I got these LED-backlit monitors, because the picture on them is quite beautiful. What a difference from CCFL-backlit monitors! The colors are more vivid and the text is much more clear IMO.

The best thing is that they both use the same amount of electricity as one of my old SAMSUNG monitors. Can’t go wrong there!

The resolution is nice step up at 1920 x 1080 instead of the 1680 x 1050 that I had on my SAMSUNG monitors.

In short, I’m impressed with this new ViewSonic monitor.

Excellent TV, but beware of the early runs.
The dirty little secret when buying consumer electronics is to not buy them when they first come out, because there are bound to be bugs and defects among the first units manufactured. The manufacture is bound to discover these problems, make the necessary correction(s), and the subsequent lots should not have the same issues. This Vizio model is no exception.

I too have had the audio problem, where the audio distorts after a set amount of time. When I went to exchange it, I made sure the replacement was from a different lot than the first, that way I am bound to get a unit that shouldn’t have the same problems as what I had before. My new unit works perfectly. For reference my first unit was made on 11/09 and my new unit was made 02/10.

Vizio has also made several firmware updates between the two sets I tried out. The first TV had version 2.06 and the second 2.13. I have no idea what improvements were made, but it could relate to the audio problem.

What I like about this TV is that since it has a glass panel, the image resembles what a HD CRT would produce. It really smooths out the picture and gives a better image quality that a matte finished LCD panel can’t deliver. A typical LCD TV can produce a sharp picture, but at the same time it looks a little hazy to me. You certainly can’t get a glossy panel for a TV of that size anywhere that I know of. If you like the look that a CRT TV or a plasma gives you will probably like this TV. I am also surprised that Vizio was able to deliver a LED TV at this price point.

I also really like the styling of this TV. It has the appearance of a high-end TV, something like what Bang & Olafson would produce. An the fancy touch panel controls are a nice touch. I would like to purchase a 27″ or 32″ of this same style of set, but unfortunately Vizio only makes this style in in 19″ & 23″.

The sound, if you get a properly working unit, is quite good. It looks to me Vizio put a smaller version of their HD sound bar into this set, because the SRS Surround technology really expands the sound coming from the TV. I didn’t find the sound to be “tinny” at all. As others had reported the sound quickly goes from silent to loud.

The remote control only has one IR emitter on it, so if you are fairly close to the TV you need to point it toward the IR receiver to work properly. If you stand back a few feet, then you should have less problems. You best bet is to use a universal remote control (like the one provided by your satellite of cable provider), because many of them have at least 2 IR emitters giving you a wider range for transmission.

This TV also features a light sensor that can automatically adjust the picture in relation to the light in the room. Be aware you can’t use this feature at the same time as the 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio feature. For me the dynamic contrast ratio feature works better for me.

For some reason Vizio doesn’t advertise the fact that you have the ability to pause live TV (like a DVR), if you plug in a flash drive on the back of the TV. This TV also can play a play a slide-show of pictures on a flash drive.

For those that already own this TV and are unhappy with it, I would encourage you to exchange it at the store of purchase or have Vizio replace it. No one should have to live with the defect(s) if Vizio corrected it in later runs.

**UPDATE: I have seen that several other retail outlets are no longer carry this product, it appears it is being replaced by a more conventional design, that lacks the glossy screen. If you are interested in this product, be sure to get it as soon as soon as possible.

Vizio vs. Sony vs. Samsung
Although I am not a videophile or audiophile I’d like to comment on this product.

To be honest, I purchased at the Cost** Warehouse store because of a $50 savings over Amazon, a 90 day no-questions-asked return policy and an extra year of manufacturer warranty included in the price. Since this is a new technology in this size set and sales usually come up on TV’s around the Superbowl, it made sense to me to have the option of return if the price drops and to be protected by an additional year of warranty.

So far, I’m glad I have a 90 day return option because I just might have to take advantage of it regardless of any price movement. Unless there is something wrong with the set or we can’t figure out what we are doing, the poor quality of the sound might necessitate it’s return.

Having prior experience with a 19″ Sony and a couple of 26″ Samsung LCD sets I can report that the sound on this set is extremely poor compared to the others. So far, no matter what we do to adjust the sound it just does not perform. Using the SRS surround setting is just horrible. This set replaced an older Sony 720p LCD that had a simulated surround setting and it sounded fine. The other options you have include several pre-sets that do not allow for equalization adjustments if you choose them or the setting called ‘flat’ which does allow for setting the bass and treble. So as of this writing the best sound we can get from this set is to use the ‘flat’ setting and then turn the bass up to 100% and the treble at 60%. Using this setting the TV still sounds very ‘tinny’, like you are listening to a 2″ speaker! If you turn down the treble any more it begins to sound muddy, and if you compensate by reducing the bass you get more tinny.

Aside from the sound (which may prove to be a deal breaker), the picture looks very good, on a par with my other Samsung sets. I think the size is very nice, the old Sony was 19″ and this makes a nice difference giving you more screen area than the 20 or 22 inch alternatives. The form factor is very sleek, the remote is poor (but we use a combo cable remote anyway). We do not connect directly to cable so I can’t comment on ‘channel lag’ as has been reported but can tell you it takes an annoyingly long time to start up, making you watch a ‘vizio’ splash screen, then a blue screen, then finally your picture.

If you have a very bright room, be aware that there is the potential for a lot of glare from the reflective glass surface of this set and that may be a deal breaker for you because there is a lot of reflection from some angles. If you can train yourself to look through it you might be fine.

So in summary, we are happy with the picture and performance of the set overall, but if we can’t find a solution to the sound problem the set just may go back. I will update this review if there is any news to report.

UPDATE June 21, 2010:

It’s been about 5 months since we hooked up a set of speakers Altec Lansing BXR1221 2.1 Speaker System (Black)to this set and the sound problems are mostly gone. I say mostly because once in a while the sound is garbled and we need to shut off the TV and turn it back on again for the problem to clear. Changing channels or inputs does not work, it must be powered down.

The only other issue is the fact that the remote must be pointed at the sweet spot and at the right angle otherwise it does not respond.

So if you can live with the fact that you might need a set of speakers to overcome the sound problems and the slight aggravation of the remote responsiveness then go for it because the picture and form factor of the set are outstanding.

Truly great TV
I bought this TV because my 20″ LG that I use in my home office was going out. I figured that if I was going to buy a new TV I might as well get the latest technology. I picked this one because of Vizio’s reputation. When I hooked it up I was truly amazed at the picture quality. I own 4 HDTVs and have replace all of them at least once, so I have owned at different times 1 projection LCD, 1 Plasma, and 6 CCFL backlight LCD TVs. The picture on this TV is truly great. The standard definition channels look almost as good as the HD channels did on any other HD TV I have owned and the high definition looks so real one would think they were looking out a window. I remember how impressed I was with my first HD TV, well this TV made an equal impression on me over my prior HD TVs.

The only annoyance is the fact that the volume bar does not go away when the sound is muted. I remains until you un-mute the TV. This annoys me, but is livable considering everything else.

The biggest advantages to LED LCD over CCFL LCD are the power consumption, the expected life of the backlight, and the picture quality. This TV is advertised as only drawing 30W but my UPS tells me it only draws 26W. The weakest link to a CCFL LCD TV is the backlight. It is what goes first most of the time, but LEDs last virtually forever so I will have to see what the next weakest link will be that will cause me to have to replace this TV. I expect this TV to last for at least five years before needing replacement, but time will only tell.

Excellent TV… Great deal and Great features!,By Dawntreader77

I’ve had this set for about 4 weeks now… Very pleased with the set. When I read the reviews on it I didn’t believe that it could be that good, and that someone must be pumping it up. Well, it they weren’t. For the money, this is an awesome deal and I have several folks that are looking at purchasing one just like it.
The video processing and interpolation of additional frames for a video smoothing effect is quite good, however with lower bit rate sources, it can have some occasional banding that appears as artifacts… Not bad, but for a geek like me I notice it.
With a great source like Avatar Bluray however the smoothness looks amazing and that coupled with the 2000000:1 contrast ratio gives a great look to the picture.
Internet Apps are great – Streaming Netflix and listening to Pandora are amazing capabilities!
Shipping was amazingly fast and very happy with the Amazon Purchase.

Cons:
My only complaint is that this set was supposed to replace/augment my use of my projector to give me the ability to watch HD in a normal lighting environment. The problem is that everyone (including me)wants to watch everything on this rather than the 120″ screen with only 4000:1 contrast ratio. Oops! Should have purchased the 55 inch.

Seriously though a little slow to boot, and switch sources, but not terrible…

This is the most TV you are going to get for the money. This is replacing an older Sony 40″ LCD TV and what a difference! I had watched AVATAR Blu-Ray version on my Sony and then bought this TV. To say there was a hugh improvement would not come close to describing it. I was totaly blown away by the picture, such detail, it almost looked 3D. Setup was easy and unlike my Sony this TV’s remote actually controls all my components, a big plus I was not expecting! So for those of you wondering if there is a difference with 240HZ, the answer is oh ya, a hugh one!!!

Great LED TV. This VIZIO TV rivals the best SAMSUNG TV… I did a lot of research. It actually has more capability to similar priced SAMSUNGs when looking at internet connectivity and applications.

The delivery process was also simple and well executed. This was the only hesitation I had with buying off of AMAZON. The delivery team called and scheduled my delivery 2 days prior. When they arrived they unpacked the TV, hooked up power, and checked for picture and sound. They then offered to take and dispose of the packaging. Overall, a very well run delivery process.

I received this item around the last week of March 2010 and decided to postpone submitting my comments about this HDTV until my excitement wore off. The verdict…….. Very GOOD!

Let’s start w/ the packaging. Vizo, I think has the coolest packaging I’ve seen to date. The box the TV came in is so colorful plus it advertises all the cool neat features you will find on the HDTV that’s inside. There is also these (4) neat little plastic clips on the base of the box that you simply squeeze and pull out. This allows the end user to lift the outer carton up and off the base of the carton to reveal the foam protected TV that’s covered in clear plastic. Now that’s what I call making an impressive introduction!

To be honest the TV styling is very bland and the silver piece is kinda cheesy. I would have loved to have seen this TV with the Vizio “Java” styled bezel but in a solid black color instead of the brown (Now that would have been SWEEEEET).

The setup went very smooth, however the picture on this HDTV out the box was cranked too high for my taste. Trying to adjust the settings on my own was a real challenge with so many options that the picture settings allows. I just finally ended up going online to [...] and punched in a great starter picture setting. The setting gave my TV picture that beautiful image “Pop” after some personal tweaking of course.

The remote was not very comfortable to hold unless I was typing on the Qwerty keypad. The keypad is responsive, even though the buttons are a bit stiff, but it’s new so I’m sure over time they will soften somewhat. The bluetooth signal is very strong and the Apps fuction works very well. The video / movie streaming via VUDU was very good with minimal buffering using AT&T Elite DSL service.

Ok.. Let me break this review down into Pro’s and Cons.

Pro’s:

Brilliant packaging! A well thought out and consumer friendly packaging that’s second to none that I’ve seen. It makes shipping TV’s like these so much easier and safer for both retailer and consumer.

Simple set up. The TV pretty much walked me through setting up the cable connection and WiFi internet.

The remote control is responsive most of the time and the Blue-tooth works well with this TV. I can’t comment on how well it works with other devices because I only used it on the Vizio TV exclusively.

The Vizio Apps is why I purchased this HDTV and they performed wonderfully. Once you’ve streamed movies wireless via Netflix and Vudu you will not want to watch rentals any other way (except in Blue Ray). Nice job Vizio! Side note: Vudu has more HD and HDX movies than Netflix.

There’s plenty of picture settings (can be a bit overwhelming from some).
Picture is bright crisp, clear and almost flawless once the picture settings are set just right.

The built in HD tuner pulled in so many of HD & SD channels! I’m just running basic cable to the back of the TV without a box. I was really surprised that no one mentioned in their review how receptive the Vizio tuners are. Really impressive!

The TV sound is acceptable and much better than most this size, but it’s no home theater either.

Price and value! You can’t beat the amount of features you get on this TV for the price ….it’s unmatched period. !

Now the Cons:

The TV styling is bland and cheesy. (The “Java” bezel should have been used for this TV, but in a solid black or solid gray color)

The remote is very chunky and does not feel comfortable unless you’re typing on the Qwerty keypad.

All (3) USB ports are disabled. That’s unacceptable and could be a deal breaker until it is resolved. I would have liked one USB to have been functional, but all three is just terrible.

The Vizio logo is always on. Stand-by color is orange (off mode). Power on color is bright white (On mode). There’s no setting to turn the logo light off. It’s my understanding that this is common on all Vizio sets but the end user should have a way to turn it off if they want to.

TV locked up a few times requiring me to unplug it from the wall and reboot. This happened while cycling through the TV menu settings twice and while watching a TV show once on cable.

The TV also makes a subtle clicking / popping sound 20 to 30 seconds after it has been powered off. I don’t no why nor have I contacted Vizio to find out why. Like I said it’s very subtle not annoying.

There was also a problem with the TV remembering custom settings after changing channels or turning the TV off and on. That problem seems to have subsided now (possibly via automatic firmware update).

The confusing model numbers. I made a mistake and ordered the Tru-LED model without Vizio Apps by mistake because of the similarity of the model numbers. Fortunately, I was able to catch my mistake in time before the incorrect TV had shipped out to me.

Overall:

I would recommend this TV for the price. I believe this TV could serve as a new beginning (if you will) for the Vizio brand, but only time and reliability will tell. I truly hope Vizio embraces this opportunity to push forward and produce quality HDTV products that can garner a new respect for the Vizio brand. Let’s hope so!
