WOW!
There is just so much to love about this TV.

My last TV was a 32 inch Magnavox LCD. Picture was exceptionally bright, but HD channels looked great connected via component cable. For some reason, HDMI would not work with my cable box and that TV. While picture was bright, darker colors left much to be desired.

I ordered this TV and got it in 2 days. I must say, I was pleasantly suprised by the freight carrier, Pilot. They actually arrived earlier than my stated time, ehich worked out well because I was home. The box had not a mark on it. When I get packages from UPS or FedEx, it looks like they’ve played soccer with the packages. The box was in excellent condition. The delivery guy carried it by himeself on his shoulder up to my apartment.

It took maybe about 1/2 hour to unpackage and set up, and connect my cables. Though it’s suggested to do this with a helper, I was able to put together and lift myself. It was a bit on the heavy side, but it was not too difficult to do alone.

I was thrilled when I turned on the set. The picture is crystal clear, and dark colors look excellent on this screen. HD looks awesome.

Since I bought the package, I got the 2 pair of glasses, the 2 BluRay 3D discs and the 3D blu ray player. 3D on this set looks positively breathtaking. I have a number of 3D blu ray titles, and have been watching them on this screen. My cable company aslo has about 18 3D movies on demand, most free, in over-under format. They play fine on this TV through both component and HDMI.

There are lot of settings, and advanced settings. If video setup is not familiar to you, I suggest you do as I did and sit down in front of the TV with the book and read through and adjust your settings as you see fit – it will be worth it.

Another great thing about this TV is the amount of inputs. There are 3 HDMI A/V inputs, 2 Component inputs with l/r audio inputs, 2 regular video inputs with l/r audio inputs, 2 USB ports and an SD/SDHC/SDHX slot. Including the coax antenna input, there are a total of 9 inputs on this set PLUS the 2 USB and SD slot – that’s pretty impressive.

All of the input terminals can be labeled, using preset device names. They can even be disabled using the NOT USED label. Doing this will skip those choices from the input selector menu.

Picture quality? The color range really makes a difference in this set. Theres a black setting which can be set to ligher or darker. Setting it to darker makes a world of difference in HD content. You truly see black and black gradients clearly on this set. There is excellent color spectrum, without the banding I was used to with my LCD panel. The great thing about changing the color settings is that the settings are retained individually for each input. The THX setting for 2D mode, and Cinema setting for 3D mode really enhances the color and clarity of the displayed content.

I really wanted this set for the 3D capabilities. I have tons of my own 3D content (photos and videos) which I was viewing on my 3D computer monitor. Everything is just so much bigger viewing it on this set. I was quite startled at the size difference of the 42 inch (OK, 41.6 inch) screen compared to my old 32 inch screen.

Since my main purpose was 3D with this set, I’ll mention it again, full HD 3D is truly amazing viewed with this setup. People have complained about the glasses being uncomfortable, but I have no cpmplaints with the glasses. The Full HD 3D exhibits almost no ghosting, and the little bit of ghosting I have seen is not at all distracting to me. By comparison, the 3D content offered by the cable company does exhibit a bit more ghosting which at times does subtract from the enjoyment.

My only complaint about this set is the sound from the built in speakers. It’s true that built in sound is never really good, even on the most expensive of sets, which is a shame. In this day and age, they could do better with sound delivery. There are bass and treble setting, and a bass boost function, but the bass boost really just distorts the lower frequencies. At higher volumes, bass is practically non-existant. There is a digital audio output to connect to a home theater receiver, but I no longer have one.

The Vieracast features might be nice, but I don’t plan on using them, at least not yet. But it’s nice to know they are there. There are also the Viera tools, that allow quick 3D settings, photo viewing, video viewing and other tools which I haven’t really played with yet. Both the Vieracast and Viera tools can be accessed by dedicated buttons on the remote.

Internet setup was a breeze. I do have a gripe however, about having to pay an extra $70.00 for the wireless LAN adapter. For the price of this set, it should include wireless access out of the box.

If you are considering this set for purchase, download the manual from the Panasonic website and read through it. I did, and that swayed my decison.

I don’t know what else to say. This is an excellent set with stunning picture quality, excellent 3D capabilities, lots of inputs, and extra features for those that want them. If you are even thinking about purchasing this set (or the 50 inch version), you must get the complete package with the glassess / movies / 3d Blu ray player. You’re not paying for them anyway. When you first check out, you are being charged for the glasses kit and the blu ray player, but completing the purchase will deduct a small amount from the glasses kit and blu ray player, and the balance of each will be deducted from the price of the TV. In the end, your total payment will equal the price of the TV (not including tax, of course). GO FOR IT!

Absolutely astounding picture quality
I don’t have this TV but plan to buy it. I have checked it our vs Samsung. I was against Plasma TVs, but for 3D, Plasma seems to be the winner. Plasma pixels have a turn on/off feature that is much faster than LCD pixels so you don’t get the interference and for 3D it is a must.If you want 3D, don’t buy LCD LED. Samsung has recognized the superiority of Plasma and is planning a release of their own Plasma version soon. There is a lot more technical discussion involved which I left out.

Great value but not legacy friendly
Overall:
I’ve had this set for a few months now. Despite the little criticisms I have, I think this set is an excellent value and the picture is breathtaking with a 1080p source or even 1080i over-the-air.

GREAT PANASONIC LCD TV
Great LCD. Far better than the cheaper plasma versions of the same TV. How anyone could give this ONLY 4 stars… is amazing.
Apparently he thought 623 dollars should buy both a 42 inch huge
screen TV with 1080 resolution AND have Bose Speakers with surround sound. Sorry, it doesn’t come with Bose Speakers.
4 star rating was inaccurate… speakers are fine and maybe the guy has a hearing aid who gave it the 4 star rating.
Easily a 5 star item… crystal clear reception, easy to use and a great LCD HDTV. I see almost no difference between this $623 Panasonic and other brands which cost much more money. This should be all you need, unless you are very very fussy… which may be in your cable line or dish… and have nothing to do with your TV anyways. You will like the reception. If money doesn’t make any difference, why not buy 20 models… and throw out the 19 TV sets that don’t please you… (and hope the one you kept doesn’t crap out the next day) Panasonic vs LG is like Mercedes to Yugo. (Yugo was the cheapest car ever made) Ask anyone who works at Walmart how many LG TV sets are returned in a month. You can see PANASONIC TRIED VERY HARD to put QUALITY in this product… IT IS OBVIOUS IN EVERY WAY.

I replaced a 6 year old plasma TV that went out. My TV screen faces multiple windows. With the plasma I had to cover the windows with towels during the day to avoid glare. With this TV any glare is barely noticeable and only when the screen is dark. I’m watching it right now (day time) with the windows uncovered.

So far I am really happy with the TV. This is a good looking TV. The bezel isn’t huge and the speakers are in back which I like. I had it up and running without ever cracking the manual. I look forward to when the HDMI cable arrives. Though I haven’t used all the features I certainly recommend this TV. Just be aware of the IR interference issue and how to resolve it and you will be happy with it.

Lovin’ the eye candy

I’ve had this TV for over a year and I’m still blown away by the quality. Video quality is absolutely superb. Even the audio is on par or better than similar products. I use this for Blu-ray, PS3 gaming, external monitor for notebook, it works flawlessly for everything. I’m not going to go into all the Pros for this product, so many other reviews covered it all. The only Con that I have is that I didn’t buy two. I will continue to trust Panasonic for the best plasma TVs that you’ll find on the market.

white dust

Bought this tv about a month agao and love everything about it EXCEPT the white dust that accumulates on the screen everyday.It goes from a nice shiny black frame to a white one that looks like someone threw powder all over it.Does anyone know what causes this and how I can get rid of it.We have other TV’s in the house that this does not happen to

Panasonic Viera Plasma TV

I researched this purchase at length before buying. I read all of the rules, checked our budget then consulted with a family member who owned one. I couldn’t be more happy with our purchase. It was exactly what I needed. The seller was great and the product was exactly as advertised. Super easy to hook up, even for a novice like me. Would highly recommend this product.

StdDeff Source Nice

Thought I would comment on Standard Definition (480i) source feeds. Had myself in a tizzy thinking the whole house audio/visual distribution system I designed in 1998 would have to be overhauled.

Composite (Yellow video, R/W audio RCA plugs) 480i feeds are upconverted by this unit nicely and produce a much richer picture compared to the 2003 Panasonic 42″ SDTV plasma it replaced. While the “right” way to do the setup would be HDMI cables from the DVD players to the TV, I am very satisfied with the picture and saved myself a pile of work.

While of little interest to most, I am disappointed by Panasonic’s lack of discrete IR codes for ON and FORMAT (ASPECT) in this unit. The Panasonic 42″ has codes for Full, Just and Zoom I use in the Pronto universal remotes. Having to toggle my way to Zoom is a bother. OK, not important but this unit doesn’t do something the old one does and that is not progress. Minus 1 Star.

If you have HD sources, do the HDMI work. If you don’t, let the TV do the work and just enjoy your DVDs.

BTW – I bought this from TigerDirect, their customer service and shipping to Hawaii was terrible.

Great TV

I’ve had this for about 6 months. While regular TV may not be quite as sharp as LCD, overall this is great TV especially with blu-ray movies.

Stop all your research and buy this TV

I’m a research freak, especially when it comes to electronic items. By now most of you should have already decided on LCD or Plasma. For me picture quality (black levels etc) was the most important factor I was looking for in a TV. If this TV fits in your price range, then go ahead and buy it, you will definitely not regret it. Since it is a plasma, this TV does use up a higher wattage number compared to the LCD’s and after 3-4 hours of viewing the TV screen does start to get hot and you can feel the heat coming off it when you stand near it. Surprisingly the fans inside the TV do a great job because you dont feel too much hot air coming from the back of the tv. After the first 100 – 200 hrs break in period this TV will definitely keep you satisfied for the life of it. JUST BUY IT ALREADY.

BUY IT!!!!!

I bought mine through Amazon and had a great deleivery experience. It was at my house within a week, they waited while I tested all HDMI ports, etc. As far as TV goes, for $1,100 things thing just ROCKS anything within reach of that prize, – the picture is unreal. Throw in one of the 2009 Panasonic Blu Rays that were just released and you will be delighted. I do recommend you own a surround set-up as I am not thrilled with the sets sound but for just normal viewing it is sufficent.

I decided to get a new TV for the family room and my son’s bedroom, so I did a ton of research, studying, reading reviews and looking at the displays at the various stores in my area. I came to the conclusion that… the Pioneer Kudos plasmas were the best, but too pricey. The Panasonic plasma and Sony XBR LCD were my next two choices. I finally decided on the Sony, but was disappointed to learn that the size I wanted wouldn’t fit in my entertainment center. So I bought a Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ85U for the family room and Sony Bravia KDL-32XBR6 for my son. Both are beautiful TVs with excellent picture quality. You can’t truly appreciate them until you connect a high definition source like HD-TV or Blu-ray. I love the Sony, because it weighs less, has a less reflective screen, a more user friendly menu and sharp bright colorful picture. The Panasonic’s picture on the other hand is warm and natural with life like flesh tones, deep blacks and excellent colors. Neither TV has very good sound, but that’s easily remedied with a home theater system or a less expensive sound bar (I’d recommend the Sony HT-CT100). I’d go with the Sony if your TV will be in a brightly lit room or a room that receives daylight from windows. Go with the Panasonic if your TV will be in a dimly lit room and you’re looking for a more theater like experience. Either way, you can’t go wrong; both TVs are a fine choice.

Excellent Wall Mount,By Condo Dweller “Fredot”

I looked for Wall Mounts to hang my 52″ TV. All the mounts I found were very expensive. Then I found this one. This is as good or better that any I’d seen at local stores. The price is phenominal. Most of the mounts I looked at were much higher in price. This was easy to hang. Due to the mount’s weight, you’ll need another person. The hardware supplied was ok except that my apartment walls are an inch thick. So, I had to purchase 4 longer toggle bolts for thicker walls. Other than that, I had no problem with installation. I have a 52″ TV. When the TV was hung on the mount, the weight of the TV did not move the mount at all. I am very happy with this product and recommend it highly.

Ther Perfect Balance of Price, Quality and Functionality,By Jimbo “Mad Scientist”

I purchased this wall wount for my 52″ Sony Bravia LCD which weighs about 80 lbs and it worked out perfectly. The cost was $69.99. First of all the mount that arrived was as pictured on the Amazon website and it is solidly constructed and comes with an abundance of hardware for mounting. I was able to use the 4 supplied lag bolts to go directly into the 16″ spaced studs behind the wall. The holes on the back of the mount allow a deviation of from about 14″ to 17″ spacing of the wall studs. It was simple to predrill the holes so that the mount would be level and easily screwed/bolted into the wall. DO NOT trust the built in level or the supplied level (bubble). These are inaccurate and you are better off using a 2 foot level to do the job. Also, be sure to hit the center of the stud which will typically be 3/4 inches in width; you want to be as close to the center of that piece of wood as possible. If you are installing into a masonry wall, the hardware is provided.

I was mounting it between two built-in wall units and wanted the LCD to be centered. This was not a problem despite the fact that the wall studs were not centered. The mount allows some flexibility for this in the way that the mounting holes are positioned along with the fact that the LCD can be “hung” off center.

Once the mount is secured to the wall and the mounting brackets are fastened to the LCD, two of us lifted the unit and hung it on the bracket without any trouble. Tightening two “set screws” secure the brackets of the LCD to the mount and it is ready to go. One other comment on the supplied washers: I agree with previous posters that they are flimsy. You can purchase heavier gauge ones or just double up on the supplied ones.

My wife and I love the articulating mount. It allows the LCD to be tilted left/right/down and pulled away from the wall if desired a fair number of inches. When pushed back all the way to the wall, the back of the LCD is about 4″ away from the wall.

I believe the contruction and strength are more than adequate and the only comment on that is that the front mounting plate that holds the LCD could be a tad thicker (heavier gauge sheet metal). All in all, this mount does a lot, is easy to intall, is well made with above average construction and has a great price. I would recommend this product.

Good product, but…..,By J. LiaoI got this tv mount few weeks ago, and it is a good one. However, I really think the company can produce a better instruction manual, since it can be hard to follow sometimes. Another thing is that the hardware it comes with is pretty much useless if your TV is a bit larger. We had to buy quite a few things to make everything work.

Great wall mount,By K. Hudgins

This wall mount is a good value. After I installed it I hung on it and did a few pull ups on it. It didn’t even budge! I also just used the hardware that they give you in the box. You can purchase it from a hardware store if your not sure about the quality of it but it works just fine. It’s a little stiff moving it from the wall, and I haven’t been able to move it around more to loosen it up. I’ll do a follow up to this review on moving it around more. I really haven’t been home that much to do that.

I am using this mount to hang my PN50B650 50″ Samsung plasma, and it works great! I was a little concerned about the reviews on the mounting hardware saying they were brittle and weak but the lag screws worked just fine for me and I even hung on the mount (200 pounds) once it was installed to be sure it could easily handle an 85 pound TV! Mounting was simple once you find your stud centers (which is very important). Even if you’re not quite level on your mounting, the mount is adjustable to account for that. The level that comes with the mount is junk so use your own, it’s a nice gesture I guess ;) All in all, this is a nice, heavy duty mount that I would buy again and recommend to friends.

This product is a good, heavy duty mount. As I had to secure the mount into a (Year 1979)wall with 1 3/8″ thick metal studs there were some problems to overcome. To make the job easier I removed the backing plate from the assembly and secured it to the (reinforced) joists with 5/16″ threaded rod… and then the leveling and lifting was easy for one person. After attaching the balance of the mount, the level remained true… and was within 1/16″ of true when the 52″ Samsung was mounted….. a shim in the mount corrected the 1/16″ error. I am very satisfied. The only complaint I have isn’t the fault of the mmanufacturer. The studs on the wall I used weren’t done right and the unit had some trouble with it. Nothing I couldn’t handle tho. That being said, I installed and was able to pull myself off the floor with it (in the close position, I’m 220 so the extented position wouldn’t work…LOL).

It’s very strong, can’t say that enough. I had to use a little graphite to free up the movement a bit though. It’s new. Great Product. Great price… can’t say enough.

I purchased this TV to be close to my computer. With the supplied antenna, I could get 3 stations, and they varied from day to day. I attached an old large TV rabbit ears,and now I get 19 channels. The picture is PERFECT. I am so happy with the TV now. At times I have to put the sound all the way up, however, my hearing tends to be failing as I get older, so it could just be me. I couldn’t be happier with this TV now. It is just amazing……

I am exceptionally pleased with this handy little digital TV! The picture quality is great, the built-in ATSC scanner picks up lots of channels, and the remote is easy to use. The included antenna is good, however, when I’m using it at home I attach a 99-cent rabbit ears antenna and pick up more channels and more easily. I went to the 21st-floor roof of my New York City apartment and stood very still as I scanned in 35 channels (about 10 more than I got inside my apartment). Then I can move around wherever I’m using the TV to receive a channel I’ve already scanned in. The slightest movement of the TV or antenna can make the difference between no reception and crystal-clear reception. The sound is tinny but it’s to be expected with such small speakers. When I plug in amplified desktop speakers the sound is terrific, as is using a (not-included) pair of headphones or earbuds. The battery lasted 2 hrs. and 10 minutes on a full charge. When I’m home I use the included AC adapter, of course. The 2-position fold-out stand is flimsy so I’m careful with it. There is a standard tripod screw-hole mount in the base, too. The only improvements I could think of would be to include a protective soft case and to throw in a pair of earphones. If it stops working properly I’ll add it to this review, but so far I would recommend it with no hesitation. As a footnote, a week after I bought this from Target, thru Amazon, the price dropped $10 (making the total cost w/tax and shipping $63). A Target rep said that if I had bought it directly from the Target website they would have refunded the difference, but since it was thru Amazon they couldn’t do it. Amazon said they would not refund the $10 that represented the sale price, so I was quite annoyed. Buying this TV thru Amazon turned out to be to my detriment in this case.

Antenna works fine for me, and picture is very good. Sound is tinny but my daughter says it’s okay (very good with earphones). I paid $99 months ago, and it was well worth it. Be sure to tell your hard-of-hearing friends and relatives about this terrific $60 bargain.

Takes up so little space. Could use one more “notch” on the sound bar – but it’s still perfect for what I want and need.

Outstanding Little TV,By M. Wivell

I would give this TV 10 stars if possible! When utilized in an area with good reception to the local network towers, the reception is wonderful. Like all digital TVs if you are not in close proximity to the broadcasting signal you will not receive much if any viewable content. I have this little gem on my desk at work and it is amazing. As another review states, the little 6 inch magnetic antenna is all you need to receive crystal clear reception. Since I keep the unit plugged in, I can not comment on the battery life. If you are looking for a little tv with a very good picture, look no further.

I feel this is a great emergency portable TV; that could be used in emergencies, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, while you’re working on jobs, suburban camping, on the patio, etc…

This TV set has both an analog and a digital tuner; which enables me to get TV signals from over the air or cable. Surprisingly I found out that my cable also broadcasts some local digital signals on the cable; so surprisingly I found out that I could get analog and some digital channels on my basic cable tier.

I live in a trailer so I’m surrounded by metal and I can’t get local over the air TV signals unless I put the antenna near a window then I can get a few local channels. However I try to simulate an emergency by sticking the antenna on the roof and standing with the TV by the door and I was able to pull in a surprising amount of channels; much more than I even can pull in with an analog TV with the antenna outside. The TV tuner seems to be reasonably sensitive. On the one I got the VHF seems to be fairly sensitive and I can pull in the same basic channels that I could with my old TV. The UHF tuner seems to be more sensitive than my old TV and antenna so I can receive more basic channels that I used to. So I can receive about the same number of commercial broadcast channels; but I pick up more stations because of multi-broadcasting. The amount of public broadcasting stations channels that I can pick up is more; and is multiplied by multi-casting; so I could pick up many more stations over the air.

I’m giving this TV set five stars because it’s better than I expected and it’s an excellent value for the price I paid for it.

I read a review from someone that said that the channels had to be rescanned every time that the TV was powered on; that’s not true. I found that if you let it finish its scan, it will reboot and rescan a second time and then it will store and remember the channels. I switched back and forth between antenna and cable scan profiles and it remembered each profile.

The downside is that the remote control doesn’t have numbers, so it has very limited controls, so you have to scroll through the channels, so if you have a lot of channels it can take a long time to scroll through all of them. I received about 37 channels over the air and about 90 on my basic cable tier. It would be nice if it had numbers so you could just key in the channel. It of course lacks a last channel button; which I missed because I often flip back and forth between two programs. I haven’t yet found a universal remote that lists this TV brand, and the universal remote automatic code search wouldn’t work with it, because the automatic code search turns off the TV when it gets to the right code, however this TVs remote system does not turn the TV set on and off. I think TV manufacturer made the TV with a hardwire on and off switch so the remote sensor would not run down the TV when it’s not in use and powered by batteries.

One thing that is kind of a poor design. They came up with a great idea of putting a couple slots and holes so you could hang the TV by the wall, regretfully the positions they put the holes in the slots is to hang the TV by its side instead of horizontally. So regretfully it’s not safe to to watch the TV horizontally with the holes that are manufactured in the TV to hang it. The holes are manufactured into the TV are only to store the TV. It’s a great space-saving storage feature, but it would’ve been better if they would’ve made the holes so you could hang the TV horizontally on a wall so you could watch it on the wall.

The TV I received had two different antennas, I really liked the magnetic mount antenna with a few feet of wire. It’s great because I can stick the antenna on top of my trailer or on the top of my car and run the wire through the door window in an emergency situation.

Regretfully the TV package Amazon is currently buying from the manufacturer does not contain a cigarette lighter adapter. The battery run time seems to be about two hours (which is good for TV with this big of a screen), regretfully it’s not user replaceable. If you have a car with cigarette lighter and an adapter you could always use the TV’s battery; until a commercial and then go out your vehicle for power. The sound is tinny; which is what I would expect from a small cheap TV with small speakers.

I gave this TV five stars because I think it’s a great buy or the price and because it’s better than the other TVs I’ve tried its size and in its price range.

In my opinion the big winning features are.

It has an internal battery so in an emergency it can be used for about two hours off the battery.

It’s powered by 12 V, so with an adapter it can easily be run off of common automotive batteries. With the provided power supply it can be run off US House current.

It comes with a remote.

The tuner is both analog and digital. (So I can run it off my cable, and in an emergency I can use an antenna).

It’s a cable ready TV, that comes with two different types of antennas. One of the antennas has a cable with a magnetic mount.

I have this TV and I am extremely pleased. I get 17 channels with the little antenna that comes with it. The remote works well, however I don’t really need it. It was very easy to set up. Just turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions. I didn’t even have to read the instructions that came with it. The picture is crisp and clear and so is the sound. I use it in my master bath to get the news and weather while I am getting ready for work. I will be purchasing several more for Christmas gifts.
